Makeup Revolution Hump Day Haul!

Hello and Welcome to Saving Face Beauty!

As always, The products featured in this post were purchased, with the money I earned, doing things I don't like, for people who don't appreciate it.

It's that time of the month again.. It's Payday!

And I spent a fairly modest portion of my check at Ulta on Makeup Revolution products. Can you think of a better way to familiarize yourself with a foreign brand? Better yet, this is a haul composed almost entirely of cheek products! Get excited.

First, I picked up an eyeshadow palette but "Forever Mermaids" contains everything but your everyday neutrals.  There's a respectable variety of color options in mostly shimmer and satin finishes. My first impression is that some shades perform quite well while others leave much to be desired. This palette is very hit and miss when it comes to color payoff. If you're looking for colorful shadows that consistently perform well, consider Morphe instead. Now those palettes will really make you feel like a Mermaid.

Next I picked up a Vivid BakedBlush in the shade 'Loved Me the Best' which I would describe as a refreshing pink. There's definitely a shimmery component to this product but it's definitely a blush that requires you build up, which I prefer. It's easier to achieve a natural flush that way, and the shimmer comes off a little more subtly as well which gives your cheeks a satin-like glow. They're very similar to the Milani Baked Blushes just taken down a notch which, doesn't have to be a bad thing.

The Rose Gold lipstick in the shade 'Chauffear' is your run-of-the-mill nudey-mauve. There's nothing special about this shade, it's been done a hundred times and to add insult o injury it's actually too light for me to wear on it's own. I'd have to combine it with a deeper shade. Assuming this shade does work for you the formula is nothing to write home about either. I guarantee that you have something like this in your collection already. If, for some reason you don't, look no further than the Colour Pop Lippie Sticks. The retain for the same price, they come in a variety of formulas and colors (even the obscure ones) and they're beautifully pigmented.

Next I picked up the Golden Sugar 2 Palette, which is marketed as a collection of blushes but there are quite a few Highlighter-type shades as well. This palette is composed of six shimmery metallic shades and two nude matte shades that can be used as blush or bronzer depending on your skin tone. In comparison, the shimmer shades perform much better. But unlike the 'Mermaid' palette, this one's a keeper.

Next is the Vivid Baked Bronzer in Golden Days. For my complexion this performs as a subtle highlighter. I would have to compareit's level of pigmentation to that of an Hourglass ambient lighting powder. It's subtle but it gives a beautiful luminosity to the skin that's great for natural makeup days or as a first layer in a strobing routine. Most of us are familiar with the concept of a shimmer brick, if you're not it's a single pan of a powder product that can be used separately or together. This one is the most stunning I've ever seen in the drugstore, surpassing it's Physician's Formula and Revlon equivalents. Even though this product only comes in one shade, I feel like this product rivals even it's Bobbi Brown counterpart. It's the best $7 I've ever spent.

This next product. The Pro Illuminate Disk, doesn't' look like much online or in the pan but when all it takes in $5 until you have free shipping and a couple of youtube reviews this ended up in my cart without much guilt.  Now, this is a proper highlighter that's definitely subtler that the shimmer brick but more glowy than the Vivid Baked Bronzer and I'm looking forward to it.

Last but definitely not least are the Radiance and Beyond Radiance highlighting trios. I haven't swatched them yet, because they're so just so beautiful! From what I understand, these are more so on the subtle side and are compared the Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette on a regular basis.

That concludes this Hump Day Haul! If you've tried anything from Makeup revolution I'd love to know what your experiences were, especially when it comes to their eyeshadow palettes. Are there any available at Ulta that are actually worth trying? Leave me a comment!
