Hello and Welcome to Saving Face Beauty!
If you're one of those people who really has their sh*t together you've probably already heard the good news - That MAC has reduced the price of their eyeshadow refill pans from $10 to $6! A 40% reduction? That's not bad at all.
As far as I'm aware it's not a sale (because MAC almost never has sales) but a permanent reduction. At least for the foreseeable future.
My only guess for the reduction is to stay competitive with their main rival Makeup Geek, whoseshadow refill pans also retail for $6. The only difference is quality.
When you purchase a Makeup Geek shadow you're getting a formula that is far superior. Not to mention that when she first launched these eyeshadows, Marlena (creator of Makeup Geek) made it her priority to create MAC dupes.
Considering how successful Makeup Geek has become, it was only a matter of time before MAC was forced to do something drastic. I just assumed it would be something productive like overhauling their own formula. Instead it seems like they took the easy way out. For now.
There was a time, not too long ago when MAC was the be all, end all in the world of beauty. Now, who knows that the future will hold for the industry innovator. My hope is they they'll draw from their legacy and continue to redefine their identity as a brand in order to set themselves apart from the competition. Because the alternative is to continue to get duped.
Either way the consumer is the one who benefits the most form this situation.
If you're a MAC lover now is the time to restock on your favorite shadow refills.
All of these palettes will contain a mixture of permanent shades as well as shades unique to the palette.
If you're in the market for a great contour palette from a reputable brand, consider the Contour and Sculpt Yourself palette. This is an essential sculpting palette containing the prefect shades of highlight, bronzer, shimmer and blush to define your most important features.
Does MAC Cosmetics still hold a special place in your heart? If so, what are some of your favorite products? If not, what would you like to see from the brand in the future?
