Hello and Welcome to Saving Face Beauty!
Don't get me wrong, I love a good neutral eyeshadow palette because I'm only human. My bank account can attestto that humanity. However, there are days when I'm running late and I get intimidated by the shade selection and versatility of larger palettes. The larger the palette, the more options you have, and sometimes when I have too many options and not a lot of time I have a mild panic attack. Not Really, but you get the idea: It' s a bad situation.
These are the times when the worst thing you could grab for is a palette with ten or more shades. In cases like this just remember: Less is best.
If you don't already have a go-to five minute eye look, continue reading for some suggestions.
Keep in Mind: I'm operating off of the assumption that you're going for a natural eye look since more drama means more product, more effort and more time.
All you need is:
- A shadow primer or something tacky
- A tapered blending brush
- A tinted brow gel and
- One of the following shadow options
Stick to Palettes with a Clearly Defined Eye Look
Here I'm using the Tartlette Tease palette. This comes with six shades and, even though you're free to mix and match, each row corresponds to an eye look.
Try Quads or Trios that are Clearly Labeled
The Wet n Wild Color Icon Trios. These are classics! This is the kind of product that any makeup-wearer would benefit from having in their collection. They're pigmented AF, they're inexpensive, and they're clearly labeled. As long as you know how to read inEnglish you'll know how to create this look in a timely manner.
Use Products that can Serve Multiple Purposes
Specifically concealer, bronzer and highlighter if you have them on hand.
Take your concealer or foundation over the eye area for a sticky base. Use the bronzer in your crease for suitable transition and pat you favorite highlighter onto your lid with a spare finger.
The One Thing You Need to Avoid!
I don't care how much you think you need eyeliner, it will only slow you down.
Making sure your wing is flying straight takes time (even for the professionals) and requires a steady hand and attention to detail, none of which you have when you're in a hurry.
Moral: If you don't have time to commit, just don't do it.
Once you're done with shadow, apply no more than two coats of mascara and a tinted brow gel if you're feelin' fancy.
There you have it! My "secrets" are revealed.
