Hello, and Welcome to Saving Face Beauty!
It’s that time of the month…
It’s time for January Favorites!
Didn’t you hate that year and a half when everyone on YouTube would open their monthly favorites video with that statement? Or was it just me?
As you can probably tell from all of the skincare posts this month, January usually gives me a hard time in that department. Hydration and exfoliation have been constant themes all month long. However, this past week I finally seemed to get it under control. These are some of the products I love in January:
As I mentioned, hydration is of the utmost importance to my routine, and adding an extra layer of moisture was a necessity. I added a basic inexpensive facial serum before moisturizing. This skin renewing version from CeraVe helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, restores the protective skin barrier and promotes skin radiance - as defined by the back of the packaging.
You can find this in pretty much any drugstore that carries CeraVe. I picked this up at Target for about $16-$17. It’s lasted me for about a month and I’m about half way through so I would say it’s’ a good addition to any basic skincare routine.
If I’m being completely honest, I’ve taken my skincare routine inspiration from Rachel Whitehurst. I bought this Konjac Sponge by her recommendation in lieu of a Clarisonic because it exfoliates gently as it cleanses. Rachel said hers came in a two pack from Sephora for about $15, but I bought mine from Amazon for about $5. Five dollars for a sponge versus $150 for an oversized electronic toothbrush, for me, was a no brainer.
There are times when I get dry during the day and I don’t have a travel-sized fix plus on my person to refresh my face. instead, I bring this E.L.F. moisture stick. It feels like a cooling lip balm that’s meant for the entire face. Can be used under your makeup or on top of your makeup. This isn’t a product I use everyday, but love to keep it around emergencies.
There comes a point when the traditional exfoliating scrubs are just to harsh for a sensitive face. Doing a Greek Yogurt and honey mask several times a week really helped my skin get back to normal. Separate post coming soon.
Once my skin got back to normal, I wanted to cover it up immediately (as beauty enthusiast does) but obviously I can’t dive right into the Estee Lauder Double Wear. This BB Cream from Maybelline is great for evening out the skin. I like using this on the daily for basic, minimalist, makeup look with mascara and lip balm. This is my “I simply can’t be bothered” base.
I don’t know how many times I’ve mentioned this mascara on this blog, but it’s amazingly and effortlessly voluminous and it’s only $5 at Ulta!
That concludes January’s monthly favorites!
If you have any skincare recommendations for me, please include them in the comments. Otherwise I’d love to know what your favorites were for the month of January.
